ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR TENURE TRACK POSITION IN HEALTH SERVICES AND OUTCOMES RESEARCH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MADISON     The University of Wisconsin (UW) School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) seeks candidates for a tenure track (or tenured) faculty appointment in the Department of Population Health Sciences (PHS) (www.pophealth.wisc.edu) with a focus on patient and/or population health measurement methodology.  Applicants should have demonstrable strength in one or more germane methodological areas related to development of patient and/or population health measures, such as psychometrics, survey methodology, preference measurement, patient-reported outcome or health-related quality of life instrument development, or a related field. Vacancy - Department of Educational Psychology, University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Faculty Position in Quantitative Methods, University of Nebraska-Lincoln: The Department of Educational Psychology seeks applicants for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in our Quantitative, Qualitative, and Psychometric Methods (QQPM) program beginning August 2013. We are seeking individuals with a doctorate in quantitative methods, psychometrics, or a related field to be completed no later than August 2013. Expertise in multilevel modeling, latent variable modeling approaches (e.g., SEM, IRT, latent class analysis), and/or a related approach is required. Experience or interests in methodological applications relevant to the areas of applied statistics, experimental design, nonparametric techniques, and/or program evaluation are preferred.

Responsibilities include: (a) developing and maintaining an on-going program of methodological research leading to publications in major quantitative/methodological journals; (b) collaborating and consulting with faculty on methodological issues related to substantive research projects; (c) effective instruction, student research advisement, and student mentoring; (d) participating in faculty governance; and (e) participating in and/or preparing applications for external funding. Postdoctoral Fellowship: Applications of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures

We are recruiting for a 2 year postdoctoral fellowship within the Department of Medical Social Sciences (MSS) Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University.  Under the direction of David Cella, PhD,  MSS and the Center for Patient Centered Outcomes (PCOR) of the Institute for Public Health & Medicine focus on the development and application of health outcome science as it relates to the centrality and perspective of the patient and the integration of health related quality of life assessments into clinical research and clinical care.

The fellowship is a unique opportunity to orchestrate the application of a standardized electronic database of patient reported outcome (PROs) measures within a diverse array of comparative effectiveness research studies (CER), clinical trials and clinical care settings and a range of disease areas.   The fellowship will occur within the context of an innovative NIH funded study “PROSetta Stone” (PI Cella) designed to expand the range of PRO assessment options within a common, standardized metric as a means of promoting their use in both scientific and real-world settings.  Its overarching goal is to determine actionable thresholds (PRO endpoints) to serve as meaningful indicators of improvement or decline in therapeutic efficacy and effectiveness from the patient’s perspective.

The postdoc will work closely with Dr. Cella to craft and oversee a systematic implementation plan for PRO application and dissemination (including development of training and trouble-shooting protocols), coordinate and participate in scientific products from the study (e.g. organize and oversee manuscript preparation), and direct a range of scientific activities designed to promote PRO usability and adoption in clinical and clinical research communities. 

Candidates from a wide variety of disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply (e.g. clinical or health psychology, psychometrics, educational assessment, health economics and policy) but must be conversant in multiple relevant areas in order to catalyze PRO applications across interactions with diverse stakeholders (e.g. ability to translate psychometric constructs to clinicians, convey clinical utility to quantitative scientists).  Training in some or all of the following areas is optimal: comparative effectiveness research, clinical trials, basic psychometrics, program development, health information technology and/or dissemination science. The position will provide excellent experience in taking scientific measures to scale via implementation in real-world settings.  Candidates must be highly detail-oriented, have excellent scientific writing and data analysis skills, and thrive in intense and collaborative environments.

Completion of the doctorate prior to the start of the position is required. Start date flexible. Decision Sciences Post-Doctoral Research Fellow 

This fellowship focuses on understanding and improving the health care communication and decisions made by both patients and providers.  Past post-doctoral fellows have included scholars whose research in health care communication and decision-making has been approached using theories drawn from social cognition, motivation and emotion, risk communication, ethics, and economics.

Bioethics Post-Doctoral Research Fellow

Active projects in bioethics at CBSSM currently include informed consent and therapeutic misconception, surrogate decision-making, decision-making capacity for treatment and research, deliberative democratic methods in bioethics, resource allocation, and the sociology of medical ethics/bioethics, among others.  Candidates' area of focus must be in bioethics, although their backgrounds may be in social or natural sciences, humanities, medicine, or law.
